Out with the painted stone and in with red brick to match the hearth.
It was quick work to remove the existing facade.
Then it was careful work moving up the two vertical columns. This involved a lot of checking for level and plumb. The horizontal row is supported by a steel lintel and rebar in the holes of the bricks.
After the brick work it was time for wall repair. Just the typical steps of patching with plasterboard, mudding the joints, sanding for smoothness, and then painting.
